AHEC Goals

To serve as a bridge and resource between the university and communities, in order to increase the relevancy of academic programs to public needs and to extend knowledge developed through research and instruction to support community needs.

To improve access to appropriate health services in rural and underserved communities by supporting and enhancing local and regional health care systems.

To respond to the health personnel recruitment and retention needs of rural and underserved communities through interdisciplinary education, training programs, and support services.

To advocate for and assist communities in identifying and conveying their recommendations for health policies that support rural health systems and enhance community health and well-being.

To create and implement community development programs, in collaboration with communities, that address economic development, local infrastructure, leadership development, and health services.
